MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD. 3 (Report by Liam Mc Manus)

Naas defeated Kilcock by six points in the M.F.C. Rd, 3. 


As a result they topped their group and now meet Celbridge in the quarter finals. In a close contest throughout the sides were level at the interval Naas were slightly flattered by their winning margin as they scored a goal and a point in the last two minutes.


Naas opened the scoring with a Colm Joyce point after two minutes. Kilcock took the lead with two frees. The sides were level when James Burke pointed. Kilcock then took the lead with a Adam O’Connell point. A Luke Griffin point for Naas was answered by a Seanie Bernes point for Kilcock. Kilcock led 0 – 4 to 0 – 3 after fifteen minutes.


Naas then scored four points in a row from Darragh Kirwan(0 – 3) and Luke Griffin (0 – 1) to lead 0 – 7 to 0 – 4. Then Rian Boran (Naas) and Eoghan Mullhall swapped points. A 29th. minute goal by Mullhall left the sides level at the interval 0 – 8 to 1 – 5.


Kilcock opened the scoring in the second half with an early free. Naas replied with points from Darragh Kirwan, Colm Joyce, Luke Griffin. Cathal Bergin (Kilcock) and Colm Joyce (Naas) traded points before Seanie Bernes reduced the arrears to a point. Naas led 0 – 12 to 1 – 8 after twenty minutes. Luke Griffin and Eoghan Mullhall swapped points before Barry Kehoe put Naas two up. A 28th. minute goal followed by a Colm Joyce point gave Naas a six point victory.
