Senior Camogie Naas 2-14 Celbridge 3-05   06/02/2018

Historic first senior Camogie victory for Naas over Celbridge.

Naas 2-14 Celbridge 3-5

History was made in Parnells GAA on Sunday when Naas recorded their first ever senior Camogie win over arch rivals Celbridge in the Leinster Senior League.

This was a very competitive encounter between two motivated and skilful sides. Ultimately, Naas just had a little too much hurling ability.

The versatile Molly Ryan was outstanding in the Naas goal and ensures plenty of options between the sticks going forward. Her accurate puck outs were a feature.

The full back line built on their strong performances last week. Anna Kennedy, Grainne Dowling and Emily Quinn hardly put a foot wrong all day. Big learning exercise today and many more to come.

Tara Breen added her experience around the Naas goal in the crucial third quarter.

At half back Eilis Kenny, Ailbhe Ryan (0-3) and Ciara Friel eventually won their respective battles against a very determined Celbridge half forward line. The Naas girls ultimately finished completely on top.

At midfield, Niamh Tuohy had a powerful second half constantly punching holes with her direct runs. While her midfield partner Hannah Cusack had a super first half with very accurate deliveries to her forwards.

Aisling Marmion was very good again this week - her long striking in the second half led directly to scores.

Aine Conway (0-9, 0-5 frees) was perfect from the frees from all angles and distances - as well as chipping in with four points from play. Sniper.

Ciara Browne and Ciara Perkins kept serious pressure on the Celbridge defence especially in the crucial final minutes denying them any opportunity to launch attacks.

Lorna Kearns and Cera Kenny both played corner forward in the first half and came out to midfield to the heat of the battle after half time. Got on lots of ball.

Kate Doorey (0-2) was probably even better than last week. On a serious roll now.

Emer Hegarty (2-0) played half forward in the first half and full back in the third quarter before cutting loose again at No 14 in the last twenty minutes with the two match winning goals. Probably her best position ? Great hands.

Excellent over all.

Away to Danesfort in Kilkenny next weekend.
